Dom here, founder of Generalyst. I have a confession to make: I hate job descriptions.

Or, more specifically: I hate generic, AI-generated job descriptions that look for an “experienced professional with excellent track records”. Because that’s just corporate gibberish that doesn’t mean anything.

So here, I want to outline - in plain English - what I’m currently hiring for. But first, context:

What’s Generalyst?

I believe the future belongs to generalists: the people who do more than one thing, don’t specialize (or if they do, still bring a broad foundation), and let their curiosity drive them.

Here’s an article outlining why I believe that.

Now, as a generalist, finding a job is a bit tricky. That’s - at least - my own experience. I bootstrapped a startup to 1M revenue after university. When I left, looking for a job wasn’t that easy: didn’t have enough sales experience to work in sales, not enough in marketing to work in marketing, but also not enough “specialized” leadership experience to become a CRO.

It took me a bit to figure out what my exact value proposition is: I brought a mix of entrepreneurship, content marketing, fluency in five languages, strong sales skills, but most of all a passion for problem solving and a baseline in basically everything else (accounting, coding, product management, …). Perfect fit for International Expansion, which I proceeded to do for the next three years.

And now, I want to help people like me find the right position for their mixed skillset. By placing them in early-stage startups where there are more jobs to be done than people to do the jobs.

Because also, many recruiters … kind of suck. They’ve never been in the trenches themselves. They charge a ton of money for mediocre results.

Which makes sense: anyone could technically decide to open a recruitment company tomorrow. There are no barriers to entry, so naturally, a lot of offerings aren’t going to be very good.

That’s okay. But we gotta do better.

At Generalyst, I’m building the recruitment company that I wish I would’ve had as founder and scale-up operator:

  1. We build up a candidate pool of smart, high agency generalists (mostly in Berlin and Munich, but open to expansion in the future).
  2. Startups send us a job description, and after a quick discovery call, we put together a shortlist for them of candidates already in the pool. This sometimes leads to time from discovery call to first candidate interview in less than 24h. Which is fast. And exactly what startups need when they need to hire someone yesterday.
  3. Based on the results of the first shortlist, we iterate. Do we have fitting candidates in the pool? Cool, send over new ones. If we don’t – well, maybe we have to do some active sourcing.
  4. Recruitment requires selling in both directions: candidate → company and company → candidate. What I’ve found is that both parties aren’t great at telling their story. Which is why we’re in the process of building out a small media company (including my already existing newsletter with 1.6k subs) to publish short-form videos, podcasts, and generally more content about the companies and people that we work with.

Generalyst has been around for almost 2 years. In Q3/2026, we generated more placements and revenue than in all of 2025 combined. I think that’s what product-market-fit looks like.

Which makes it an exciting time to join. The mandates are there. Clients (mostly) love the service.

But we’re a small team: it’s just me, Aakansha (Founder’s Associate and a fantastic generalist herself), and Mayank, who supports as an interviewer.
